Alban Ovanessian
Alban OVANESSIAN (he.they), born in Nîmes, from a French-Armenian family, worked during his.their adolescence on film sets where he.they was.were invited to discover visual arts through set design and costume design.
When Alban OVANESSIAN arrived in Paris, he.they assisted Charlotte Collet, editor-in-chief of Double Magazine, and collaborated with Chanel, Martin Margiela, and Yohji Yamamoto.
In 2012, Alban Ovanessian joined the Studio Harmonic in Paris and became an apprentice of Corinne Lanselle.
In 2016, he.they joined the “Cycle Training” of the Institute of Performative Arts P.A.R.T.S in Brussels, where he.they studied the repertoires and creations of the Cie Rosas, William Forsythe, Trisha Brown, Boris Charmatz, and created his.their first works (performances and installations).
In 2019, Alban Ovanessian collaborated with Anne Teresa and Jolente De Keersmaeker for the performance “Somnia,” presented at the Kustenfestivaldesarts in Brussels.
After graduating, Alban Ovanessian worked on the video installation “COMING in.out”, presented at the P.A.R.T.S GXII Festival and the Brussels Queer Festival.
In 2020, he.they joined the cast of the Norrdans company for two consecutive years, performing pieces by Nicole Beutler, Martin Forsberg, Ludvig Daae, Ioannis Mandafounis, and Stina Nyberg.
Commissioned by the company, Alban Ovanessian created “in.through.WATER” for a group project/video shoot. In 2021, Alban Ovanessian was commissioned for a second project entitled “ROSA.SVART.STATION,” a duet alongside Rebecka Berchtold as co-choreographer and performer, touring a whole season in Sweden.
In 2022, he.they took up the choreographic research “X.DATES” and was commissioned by the queer program of the Heima Art Residency in Iceland for the choreographic reflection “Queerhub.”
