Alban Ovanessian

Alban OVANESSIAN (he.they), born in Nîmes, from a French-Armenian fami­ly, wor­ked during his.their ado­les­cen­ce on film sets whe­re he.they was.were invi­ted to dis­co­ver visu­al arts through set design and cos­tu­me design.

When Alban OVANESSIAN arri­ved in Paris, he.they assisted Charlotte Collet, edi­tor-in-chief of Double Magazine, and col­la­bo­ra­ted with Chanel, Martin Margiela, and Yohji Yamamoto.

In 2012, Alban Ovanessian joi­ned the Studio Harmonic in Paris and beca­me an appren­ti­ce of Corinne Lanselle.

In 2016, he.they joi­ned the Cycle Training” of the Institute of Performative Arts P.A.R.T.S in Brussels, whe­re he.they stu­died the reper­toi­res and cre­a­ti­ons of the Cie Rosas, William Forsythe, Trisha Brown, Boris Charmatz, and cre­a­ted his.their first works (per­for­man­ces and installations).

In 2019, Alban Ovanessian col­la­bo­ra­ted with Anne Teresa and Jolente De Keersmaeker for the per­for­man­ce Somnia,” pre­sen­ted at the Kustenfestivaldesarts in Brussels.

After gra­du­a­ting, Alban Ovanessian wor­ked on the video instal­la­ti­on COMING in.out”, pre­sen­ted at the P.A.R.T.S GXII Festival and the Brussels Queer Festival.

In 2020, he.they joi­ned the cast of the Norrdans com­pa­ny for two con­se­cu­ti­ve years, per­for­ming pie­ces by Nicole Beutler, Martin Forsberg, Ludvig Daae, Ioannis Mandafounis, and Stina Nyberg.

Commissioned by the com­pa­ny, Alban Ovanessian cre­a­ted in.through.WATER” for a group project/​video shoot. In 2021, Alban Ovanessian was com­mis­si­o­ned for a second pro­ject entit­led ROSA.SVART.STATION,” a duet alongsi­de Rebecka Berchtold as co-cho­re­o­grap­her and per­for­mer, tou­ring a who­le sea­son in Sweden.

In 2022, he.they took up the cho­re­o­grap­hic research X.DATES” and was com­mis­si­o­ned by the queer pro­gram of the Heima Art Residency in Iceland for the cho­re­o­grap­hic reflec­ti­on Queerhub.”
