Kunstenwerkplaats vzw (KWP) is an experimental space and development platform for artistic research, in the lap of 2 community centers Pianofabriek and Elzenhof, in a network of 22 Brussels GCs.
KWP is committed to development with professionally framed residencies and production support for initial research and new creations. We develop tailor-made multi-year trajectory support for some 15 artists/collectives: from the first artistic conversation and introductory residency, through (non-results-based) research and the realization of first productions, to organizing the flow to larger houses and setting up their own structures.
Currently, our trajectory artists are Khadija El Kharraz Alami, Lisa Vereertbrugghen, Renée Goethijn, Aurélie Di Marino, Edurne Rubio, Milo Slayers, Samah Hijawi, Sébastien Hendrickx, Sophia Rodriguez, Ne Mosquito Pas, Castélie Yalombo Lilonge, Oona Libens, Stijn Demeulenaere, Roel Heremans, Rosie Sommers & Micha Goldberg, Lydia McGlinchey, Sara Dziri, Sana Ghobbeh, Rachid Laachir, Sophia Bauer & Marie Schraepen.
KWP is committed to supporting artists who push the boundaries of their discipline. We go for a “stretch” within the performing arts, combining theater, dance, performance and hybrid, multidisciplinary forms. This creates innovative cross-pollinations.
KWP opts for a broad influx of promising artists/collectives. Both art school graduates and talent from the informal circuits find their way to KWP. We focus on artists who do not yet have a clear discipline, status, place in the field or structure. They are artists with atypical practices, separate preliminary trajectories and/or different profiles, but always with a strong signature of their own.
KWP creates a microcosm where international and local meet and new aesthetics and ideas intersect. We connect both Brussels and Flemish artists with the international scene, and international artists with local artistic dynamics.
