Kunstenwerk­plaats vzw (KWP) is an expe­ri­men­tal spa­ce and devel­op­ment plat­form for artis­tic research, in the lap of 2 com­mu­ni­ty cen­ters Pianofabriek and Elzenhof, in a net­work of 22 Brussels GCs.

KWP is com­mit­ted to devel­op­ment with pro­fes­si­o­nal­ly fra­med resi­den­cies and pro­duc­ti­on sup­port for ini­ti­al research and new cre­a­ti­ons. We devel­op tai­lor-made mul­ti-year tra­jec­to­ry sup­port for some 15 artists/​collectives: from the first artis­tic con­ver­sa­ti­on and intro­duc­to­ry resi­d­en­cy, through (non-results-based) research and the rea­li­za­ti­on of first pro­duc­ti­ons, to orga­ni­zing the flow to lar­ger hou­ses and set­ting up their own structures. 

Currently, our tra­jec­to­ry artists are Khadija El Kharraz Alami, Lisa Vereertbrugghen, Renée Goethijn, Aurélie Di Marino, Edurne Rubio, Milo Slayers, Samah Hijawi, Sébastien Hendrickx, Sophia Rodriguez, Ne Mosquito Pas, Castélie Yalombo Lilonge, Oona Libens, Stijn Demeulenaere, Roel Heremans, Rosie Sommers & Micha Goldberg, Lydia McGlinchey, Sara Dziri, Sana Ghobbeh, Rachid Laachir, Sophia Bauer & Marie Schraepen. 

KWP is com­mit­ted to sup­por­ting artists who push the boun­da­ries of their dis­ci­pli­ne. We go for a ​“stretch” within the per­for­ming arts, com­bi­ning the­a­ter, dan­ce, per­for­man­ce and hybrid, mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­na­ry forms. This cre­a­tes inno­va­ti­ve cross-pollinations.

KWP opts for a broad influx of pro­mi­s­ing artists/​collectives. Both art school gra­du­a­tes and talent from the infor­mal cir­cuits find their way to KWP. We focus on artists who do not yet have a clear dis­ci­pli­ne, sta­tus, pla­ce in the field or struc­tu­re. They are artists with aty­pi­cal prac­ti­ces, sepa­ra­te pre­li­mi­na­ry tra­jec­to­ries and/​or dif­fe­rent pro­fi­les, but always with a strong sig­na­tu­re of their own.

KWP cre­a­tes a micro­cosm whe­re inter­na­ti­o­nal and local meet and new aes­the­tics and ide­as inter­sect. We con­nect both Brussels and Flemish artists with the inter­na­ti­o­nal sce­ne, and inter­na­ti­o­nal artists with local artis­tic dynamics.
