Social dancing social club is a research on social dancing exploring and revisiting Wallonian traditional dances also known as petites danses” (small dances).

Wallonian dances are couple dances where couples interact with other couples. They are popular dances from rural balls and were a major hit in the 19th century. They have since gone out of fashion and are at constant risk of being lost.

After 3 years of learning with the elders in Stavelot (Liège) and sharing the dances in different residencies, workshops and festivals in Brussels, we have just started a phase of creation which will première in the summer 2026 in Stavelot and in the fall at atelier 210.

During this process, we deep dive and dissect the small dances” in an attempt to participate in their uptodateization. their original BPM (between 100 and 140) and structure is kept; however we are going for a freestyle interpretation of the steps and sequences that compose them.
