Sophie Melis

Sophie Melis, born in Liège in 1989 is a dancer, performer, slow learner and diy monster. She lives in Brussels and is a member of artist commons. Originally trained in classical ballet, her work explores improvisation, social dancing, through the practice of Wallonian dance, and is centered around community.

As a performer she took part in many projects including « Ne Mosquito Pas » by Simon Van Schuylenbergh and as a choreographer for une tentative presque comme une autre” by Clément et Guillaume Papachristou. Some of her personal endeavours include the participatory « Karaodance » (20212025) and « You can call me Page », a durational improvised performance for a group (20182019)

After many years of one shot diy experiments, she started a durational research around Wallonian dances, specifically from her region of origin in which she finds the continuous inspiration that brings her here today.
