For their new theatre project, Silke Huysmans and Hannes Dereere focus on the topic of deep sea mining : a possible future industry which hopes to extract metals and minerals from the ocean, and in which Belgium positions itself as a global leader. While their two previous pieces Mining Stories (2016) and Pleasant Island (2019) focused on the impact of land-mining through the lens of something that happened in the past, this research looks towards the future. It zooms in on a form of mining that has yet to take place.
