Femke wordt Amanda Bavo

Co-production

Femke Stallaert/Amanda Bavo writes and performs songs based on newspaper articles, a practice she began about ten years ago and which has never let her go. She presents the news in song as a social glue and as an antidote to the fear that drives us apart. Accompanying herself on the synthesizer and performing the vocals herself, she stands completely alone on stage. Lonely. This loneliness symbolizes the solitude she feels as a human being when she reads about the world. As if she doesn’t belong to it. As if it isn’t real. Dissociation is what they call it, I believe. As if she is watching a film in a language she doesn’t speak. She thinks that this feeling is relatable to many, and that many feel it right along with her. Which, in turn, makes it feel less lonely.
