Angela Kasner, the daughter of a pastor, grew up in East Germany. Her aunt from West Germany often sent her gifts such as Levi’s jeans and a Beatles record. Angela longed for freedom, for the West. When the Berlin Wall fell, she decided to give up her scientific career and enter politics. ‘Once you’ve had such a positive surprise in your life, you think that anything is possible,’ she says.
Angela Kasner is a real woman.
Angel is a performance about a woman who does not exist and who is loosely based on the real Angela: a woman who, in her search for ever more possibilities, becomes a world leader.
A fictional portrait based on true events…
By dreaming the impossible, sometimes half of it comes true. In Angel, we let our imagination run wild with an important contemporary political figure.
How far can you go in that imagination? When does imagination become a lie, and that lie a logical reality accepted by everyone?
