Simon Van Schuylenbergh

Simon Van Schuylenbergh is a per­for­mer, the­a­tre-maker, and the dri­ving for­ce behind the col­lec­ti­ve the­a­tre prac­ti­ces Ne mosqui­to pas and ANAL POMPIDOU.

In 2016, he gra­du­a­ted from the dra­ma depart­ment at KASK. For his master’s gra­du­a­ti­on pro­ject, Solo met zebra, he cre­a­ted ten life-sized papier-mâché zebras. Since 2019, Van Schuylenbergh has been col­la­bo­ra­ting with fel­low per­for­mers and the­a­tre-makers Micha Goldberg, Sophia Rodriguez, Louis Vanhaverbeke, Rosie Sommers, and Nathan Ooms at the off-spa­ce Volksroom — an artist-run orga­ni­za­ti­on foun­ded in 2013 by per­for­mer Ivo Dimchev in Anderlecht. It was the­re that he, alongsi­de per­for­mers and the­a­tre-makers Anna Franziska Jäger and Nathan Ooms, devel­o­ped the col­lec­ti­ve plat­form Ne mosqui­to pas. After five years, this pro­ject cul­mi­na­ted in September 2023 with a phe­no­me­n­al, 16-hour mara­thon fea­tu­ring 50 solos at Decoratelier/​Jozef Wouters (Molenbeek).

As a per­for­mer, Simon appe­a­red in the ope­ra pro­duc­ti­on A Revue (2020) by Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe. In 2023, he per­for­med in Sophia Rodriguez’s FRICTION, and alongsi­de 13 actors from Ne Mosquito pas, he co-cre­a­ted GERMAN STAATSTHEATER (2024) under the artis­tic direc­ti­on of Micha Goldberg and Rosie Sommers. In the spring of 2026, he will per­form in the Belgian rema­ke of Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe’s Give up, old Ghosts!.

In 2024, Simon laun­ched the research pro­ject DARK HABITS. Together with 18 dif­fe­rent artists, he embar­ked on a DIY pil­gri­ma­ge for enter­pri­sing cre­a­tors to reflect on the rem­nants of com­mu­ni­ty, spi­ri­tu­a­li­ty, and magic in the­se times of spi­ri­tu­al cri­sis and hyper-indi­vi­du­a­lism. This research will cul­mi­na­te in a pro­duc­ti­on of the same name, which is set to pre­mie­re at Theater Aan Zee in July 2026.
