Simon Van Schuylenbergh
Simon Van Schuylenbergh is a performer, theatre-maker, and the driving force behind the collective theatre practices Ne mosquito pas and ANAL POMPIDOU.
In 2016, he graduated from the drama department at KASK. For his master’s graduation project, Solo met zebra, he created ten life-sized papier-mâché zebras. Since 2019, Van Schuylenbergh has been collaborating with fellow performers and theatre-makers Micha Goldberg, Sophia Rodriguez, Louis Vanhaverbeke, Rosie Sommers, and Nathan Ooms at the off-space Volksroom — an artist-run organization founded in 2013 by performer Ivo Dimchev in Anderlecht. It was there that he, alongside performers and theatre-makers Anna Franziska Jäger and Nathan Ooms, developed the collective platform Ne mosquito pas. After five years, this project culminated in September 2023 with a phenomenal, 16-hour marathon featuring 50 solos at Decoratelier/Jozef Wouters (Molenbeek).
As a performer, Simon appeared in the opera production A Revue (2020) by Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe. In 2023, he performed in Sophia Rodriguez’s FRICTION, and alongside 13 actors from Ne Mosquito pas, he co-created GERMAN STAATSTHEATER (2024) under the artistic direction of Micha Goldberg and Rosie Sommers. In the spring of 2026, he will perform in the Belgian remake of Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe’s Give up, old Ghosts!.
In 2024, Simon launched the research project DARK HABITS. Together with 18 different artists, he embarked on a DIY pilgrimage for enterprising creators to reflect on the remnants of community, spirituality, and magic in these times of spiritual crisis and hyper-individualism. This research will culminate in a production of the same name, which is set to premiere at Theater Aan Zee in July 2026.
