Maxime Dreesen
Maxime Dreesen (1996) is a Belgian theater director and performer active in Belgium and the Netherlands. In his work, he creates theatrical playgrounds where the audience can practice desire. Sexuality, shame, desire, and unlearning form the starting point. With humor and playfulness, Dreesen explores charged themes around the body, intimacy, and freedom, and tries to make room for polyphony in the conversation about sexuality.
Dreesen graduated as a director from the Maastricht Theater Academy in 2019. In the years that followed, he developed a practice at the intersection of theater, music, and performance, alternating between directing projects, solo work, studios, and workshops. Central to this work is the theatrical alter ego Tabooboo, which has evolved into a musical project that Dreesen is currently working on, ANALBUM (2026), a hybrid concert performance.
Previous performances include the protest performance Youth For Sex (2021), Countersex Education (2022), and Peekaboo (2025), a performance about gender-fluid cruising culture that brings together performance, camp, and live music.
Since 2024, Dreesen has been part of the PLAN Brabant development program, a multi-year collaboration with Bloos and Festival Cement. His work has been performed in theaters and at festivals in Belgium and the Netherlands, including: Frascati (Amsterdam), De Studio (Antwerp), Theater Kikker (Utrecht), Grand Theatre (Groningen), Beursschouwburg (Brussel), Schuur (Haarlem), Festival Cement, What You See Festival, and Theaterfestival Boulevard.
