In this choreography by Castélie Yalombo, everything seems to be up in the air. Yalombo stands alone on stage, but her body appears to be controlled from outside. Her movements are disrupted: with her eyes closed, she moves her limbs as if she were her own puppeteer. For this powerful performance, Yalombo draws on her relationship with her multiple identities: she was born in Belgium to a Belgian mother and a Congolese father. Various historical references criss-cross her body, but each time they fade away, claiming a singularity that is more complex than the usual frameworks. The clay sculptures that surround her refer to different shades of skin, while their material seems to represent a body that has not yet taken its final form, not yet locked into a unique identity. In a hypnotic way, Yalombo moves between the sculptures, eventually becoming a clown: the only figure who has the right to speak freely. After studying at ISAC and working as a performer for Louise Vanneste, Castélie Yalombo makes her debut at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts with Water, l’atterrée des eaux vives. A rising star and voice in Belgian choreography, she delivers a captivating ode to ambiguity.
