VOLCANO TIME

Volcano Time is a new sta­ge spec­ta­cle from Kate McIntosh that dives into the curious expe­rien­ce of col­lec­ti­ve emo­ti­on — pre­mie­ring at PACT Zollverein in autumn 2026.

Can fee­ling erupt through a group? Can it flow from per­son to per­son and esca­la­te? What sparks atten­ti­on, or calms ten­si­on?
Volcano Time expe­ri­ments enthu­si­as­ti­cally with the­a­tri­cal glit­ter and mys­tery, blen­ding smoky enter­tain­ment with ama­teur bio­lo­gy to pro­be what makes human ner­vous-sys­tems tune to each other, how fee­lings emer­ge, and how folks get tang­led or soot­hed in their mood.

McIntosh tre­ats per­for­man­ce as a form of public gathering, always with a sharp focus on the live con­nec­ti­on bet­ween peo­p­le. After seve­r­al years of immersi­ve pro­duc­ti­ons, Volcano Time returns McIntosh’s work to a tra­di­ti­o­nal sta­ge and sea­ting- whi­le still invi­ting the audien­ce to enga­ge their sen­ses, tune in to the subt­le sen­si­ti­vi­ty of the crowd, and enqui­re how col­lec­ti­ve emo­ti­on might fuel resilience.
