REtransLATE is a performance about translation, communication and (mis)interpretation. Translating in this project takes points of departure in differentiated aspects of communication transcending thus linguistics: the audible and rhythmical, breathing, intonation, the inner movement that occurs during communication, the inclusion of the gaze and the relation to the moving body as a whole.
In the transfer of messages, stories, contents from one person to another, a loss occurs on the one hand whereas other dimensions tend to add up.
One would assume that any occurrence of a particular message gets transformed by our body, as much as it gets augmented by embedding this personal story in a broader historical and cultural picture. In REtransLATE, we question the procedures of choice and extraction out of communicative situations — still leaving us with the core of the matter: translating that transition. Because it is a transmission. And so again a movement.
Of which kind though.
