The one-drop rule is a social and legal principle of racial classification that was historically prominent in the United States asserting that any person with even one ancestor of sub-Saharan-African ancestry, one drop” of black blood, is considered black.”

ONE DROP is a summoning, an autopsy of the Western stage and an operetta. It is an investigation into the relationalities of capitalism, coloniality and the post-modern art market.

The title of the work refers to the Race Separation Act, created in the United States in the early 1900s, according to which a single drop of Black blood” made a person Black” despite their appearance. A person who looked white could be Black on paper if he had even one-sixteenth of an African background. The one drop rule makes blatantly clear how the concept of race is a construction, a technology made to dehumanize and dominate.

ONE DROP continues Lindfors’ series of works dealing with Black body politics. The multi-layered work adventures at the interfaces of contemporary choreography and theater, combining different performing techniques, corporeality, text, and classical music.
