Nathaniel Moore

Nathaniel Moore is a dance artist based in Brussels working between choreography, performance, and artistic research. From 2020 – 2022 they participated in a.pass artistic research program, researching ghosts, speculative somatics, and social hauntings. Their performance work often deals with themes of alienation, whiteness, power, and fragility. Their work has been supported by wpZimmer, deSingel, Horst Art & Music Festival, Zinnema, Needcompany, Cinemaximiliaan, MetaRage, De Kriekelaar, Danspunt, New Polyphonies, Ponderosa, Circo Zero, Joe Goode Annex, HISK, and SoAP. They are a resident artist at Needcompany Mills, and artist in residence in the G.Incubator program at MetaRage. They are a member of the artist-Commons collective space in Brussels.

Nathaniel attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities studying dance and gender, Women’s, sexualities studies, graduated from Canada’s royal Winnipeg ballet, and received further education from the San Francisco experimental dance community, namely Sara Shelton Mann and Keith Hennessy, whom they still collaborate with today.

Their recent projects include: The Terms of Dance (2023 – 24), which gathered 18 professional dance artists around Paz Rojo’s book To dance in the age of no future,” to ask how dance emerges and maintains itself in the context of performance art. Two curations: Becoming Archive (2023) Tanzland festival at Ponderosa which invited participants to reperform and create anew the archive of the space , and PLOTTING (2024), a festival of queer and experimental dance. In collaboration with Haamed Deqhan Nathaniel created Tanin (2023 – 25), a participatory performance work around a dance in exile. They created TripSitting a Cuddle Space (2024) with Keith Hennessy, a queer slow and intimate duet following the transmission of desire and trauma between intergenerational bodies. Nathaniel also created numerous one off performances in DIY and artist run spaces around Brussels in performances such as DeathZine (2022), REGURGISCORE (2023), and ONS in 2024 (2024).

Nathaniel might be a troublemaker, a mother, an unemployed cult leader without a following, a storyteller, shapeshifter, a person who wants to support you and who is against most moralisms in art practice. They are one of many, along a wave, working in tandem with many who hope this world can be a better place.
