Alix Konadu

Alix Konadu is a Brussels-based act­ress, musi­cian and the­a­tre maker. She works both on sta­ge and behind the sce­nes, with a strong focus on sto­ries about migra­ti­on, iden­ti­ty and com­mu­ni­ty. On sta­ge, she has appe­a­red in pro­duc­ti­ons by KVS, Het Nationale Theater (NL) and het­pa­leis, amongst others, and on screen in various series for VRT and VTM

As a cre­a­tor, she is con­stant­ly see­king new ways to con­nect the­a­tre with soci­e­ty. For instan­ce, she per­for­med in and cre­a­ted pro­jects such as Fearless Noordwijk with and for undo­cu­men­ted peo­p­le in Maximiliaanpark. With the SOCHA col­lec­ti­ve, she col­la­bo­ra­ted on pro­duc­ti­ons such as Hannibal and Burning City, which enga­ge the audien­ce in uncon­ven­ti­o­nal ways with the­mes such as migra­ti­on and connectedness. 

With the mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­na­ry cre­a­ti­on Broken Home, My Shrine, Alix del­ves dee­per into her half-Ghanaian back­ground and explo­res the­mes such as home, dias­po­ra and memo­ry. This pro­ject devel­o­ped during resi­den­cies at perfocraZe (Kumasi, Ghana), Alkantara (Lisbon) and Brussels. In addi­ti­on, sin­ce 2023 she has been the artis­tic direc­tor of the per­for­man­ces by the group WOMEN26, a col­lec­ti­ve of women from Antwerp, Brussels, Marseille and Rotterdam. 

Her work is charac­te­ri­zed by a blend of soci­al enga­ge­ment and a phy­si­cal, sen­so­ry appro­ach to per­for­man­ce, music and the­a­tre. She belie­ves in sto­ries that make spa­ce for diver­se voi­ces and per­spec­ti­ves, wit­hout redu­cing them to a sin­gle truth.
